Painting One: Self Portrait

The first of our paintings that I did was the self portrait. As I don't have many selfies to work from I ended up re-creating a digital self portrait I had made last year. During the summer of 2020 I was involved in a lot of video calls, and my favourite filter had been one with devil features, leading to a digital drawing, leading to a painting.

I'm very happy with how this turned out and that I managed to keep to a red and black theme, I tweaked the skin tone to come across as more hell-ish.

Painting Two: Item of Clothing/Accessory

I was trying to think of something relatively simple for this painting, and so settled on a pair of blue-light glasses that I'm fond of and wear to do my digital art, so I thought they would be fitting, despite this being a physical painting.

Painting Three: Everyday Electrical Object

Outside of my studio is a student's bar and the balcony of it is a meter of so away from the window - this balcony is covered in fairy lights! It's beautiful when it's dark and they've all been turned on. This piece was started right before the Christmas break (hence the baubles), and was intended to be a pine tree - however I didn't want to risk the wires and lights having spent a day and a half on them alone. Additionally, around Christmastime my nana puts lights in a bare tree outside of her house and lights them, so this is also a reference to a long standing tradition.

Painting Four: Everyday Non-Electrical Object

This plant is a Dracaena Trifasciata, more commonly known as a Mother-In-Law's Tongue, it's a fairly common succulent and I have one in my studio and one in my home. As this is a plant species I interact with very regularly I decided to use it for my painting. I altered the shading on the pot from my typical technique and I'm pretty happy with the results. Ultimately this was just really fun to paint and I enjoyed playing with the light and shadow on the plant pot.
