Artist One:

        Mercedes Tabish

Tabish is an artist that I found through social media, she works predominantly in single line drawings and I'm very fond of her animal pieces, but she created a couple of birds which helped me to work out how to draw my own for the 6th project. I like way she portrays the bird's wings while hinting at their feathers.

Artist Two:

        Stefan Silverstru

I was drawn to Silverstru through his use of bright colours and the simplicity of the design of his pieces themselves. He uses blocks of colour to make them into something more sophisticated, and these are what I found interesting about his work. I knew that I wanted to use block colours in my cubist collage but I wasn't sure how to do that and include detail until I came across Silverstru.

Artist Three:

        Red Hong Yi

Red is a fairly famous artist and if very well known for being "the artist who paints without a paintbrush". A little while ago she did a series where she depicted a series of scenes through makeup. There's examples of her using false eyelashes, mascara, but the ones I used are nail varnish and eyeshadow. There's something very serene about each picture, they give off an atmosphere of being calm and relaxed. The cherry blossoms and the makeup all link to beauty, a connection that I explored in my alternate materials piece.

Artist Four:

        Paul Heaston

I was looking through drawings of rooms in preparation for our first project when I came across Heaston's work. He has drawn a series of rooms from his own viewpoint, even including his own sketchbook and hands, and has warped the perspective dramatically to suit the viewpoint. While Heaston did not include all four walls his warping of perspective gave me an idea of how to do so in my own response to the task. Heaston also does not include any detail, something that I also elected to do.

Artist Five:

        Franz Panzer

Panzer is a sculptor who uses wire to re-create scenes or objects from everyday life - I found him while digging around for wire sculptors for some inspiration for my 3-D piece. I liked the effect on his pieces from him just using blocky shapes and so decided to attempt something similar. Panzer's work is simplistic on the surface, but the offshoots of thinner pieces of wire set them apart. This is also something I hope to include.

What is Drawing?

To me, drawing is the process of picking up a utensil to make a visible imprint on an available surface. The preferred utensil or surface is irrelevant - I believe that the result is a drawing. A drawing is something that can be taken and developed into something 3-Dimensional or can be left to shine on it's own stead, but that is what I think a drawing is.
